10 YEARS OF GEOCACHING TRAVEL BUG RACE
It's a bit late to organise a ten years of geocaching event now, which would have been nice had I thought of it earlier.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a new TB race to celebrate this milestone anniversary.
We could each have a bug or coin that is set off over the first weekend in May, from any local cache.
(I realise some of the AberCachers original racer TBs are still out there or missing in action).
Anyone interested?

Yep, not sure if we'll get around to doing it by the first weekend in May though!
It would be good to have a new race underway though.

Hi,
Count us in, but we will have to order some TB Tags.

Great. Maybe any week in May would be good enough. Its still an anniversary.

Do you have any rules for the race from previous races?
Is it just a case of how far travelled or does number of moves count or points for photos etc.

The rules were simple. No one in the race was allowed to move anyone else's bug. The TB had to be set free in any Rainbow Series cache (at that time
they were the only ones in Aber!) The winner was the TB that had travelled the furthest, by one year later. Then there was another race back to Aber.
Some of them are still going!
We can agree on some new rules for this one.. I was thinking along the lines of 10s. eg First cache to be logged in 10 counties. First cache with ten
logs from caches with 10 in the title (not sure how many of those there are to be had). Photos could earn extra points, yes... any other suggestions?
It's pretty much how we all want to play it really.
We could contact a few other locals and see if they want to join in as well. There are lots of new folks who may not have found their way here yet.

Ten bugs in the race would be another one to aim for

Guess I'd better see if I have any Travel Bugs in the cupboard that are up for a race!

If anyone is interested in a bulk order for TBs to race let me know and we can send for them all together. Last year this worked out cheaper than all
buying individual bugs.

Ahem. not last year, last TIME ... and coins that have not been activated could be subsituted for TBs, as long as they are trackable and you can
attach a mission note to them

Nitro has found an excellent deal on TBs and is going to place a bulk order. If anyone would like to have some please contact him direct through his
gc.com profile as this would be easier for everyone and he will be able to let you know costing etc.
Welshsprite, of course you can join in.
Nitro is also arrange another event for Wednesday 26 May at the Nags Head, Bridge Street, Aberystwyth 7-9 pm where we can discuss rules for the race
etc. All Welcome. Cache page should go live in the next day or so

I'll put the 26th in the diary but it's looking like a busy day already but no promises of being there.

Hey guys, (first post!)
Just a note to say Emma and I are hoping to attend this event depending on her hours!
We've been caching for just over a week now, are absolutely addicted, we've clocked 33 caches at this moment of writing, and we are looking forward
to meeting other local cachers.
We will be releasing some caches into the wild this coming month also!
Hope to see you guys soon.

Arrrgh - just browsing (as you do) and remembered that I had completely neglected Abercachers for about a year!!! I hope you are all well, it sounds
like you had a good event at the Nags Head.
PS - I would love to take part in the new TB race, please can someone fill me in on the latest news?
Byeeeee

Are the 'rules' ready for publication yet?

On a technical point - does the UK count as one country for this race, or do we count Wales, Scotland, England and NI as four countries?
Personally I would go for the second option so that everyone has a good chance of getting two or three countries on their list before the bugs move
further afield...
PS I just happen to be in Aber on the 20th, so will launch my TB at my cache in Bow Street.

With regard to the UK we all agreed that they would count as individual countries - for the same reason as you discussed.
Apparently Nitro is having difficulty logging onto here to post the 'rules' but they should be up here in the next few days.
